Thanks to past PTA investments, Hangeroos have been a fixture in CRS classrooms for many years. These chair pockets encourage students' organizational skills, enabling them to keep work and classroom supplies close at hand. With the kids using the Hangeroos all day every day, it's not difficult to guess that at a certain point they start to show their age!
Together with members of our outgoing board, we determined that it was time for a complete replacement of the Hangeroos ChairPockets for our school. When we return to school on Sept. 7, the new Hangeroos will be on every chair in every K-5 classroom, along with several of our CAPS classes! We hope you'll ask your kids about them and check them out at Back-to-School Night on Sept. 18!
Encouraging our children's 21st Century Skills is a big priority for CRS PTA this year...and it's no wonder, as it's a key District Goal for our children. Building 21st Century Classrooms means setting the stage for our children and teachers to learn through collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity. While this particular classroom enhancement is far from high-tech (in fact, it's a simple piece of nylon!) our renewed investment in Hangeroos illustrates our commitment to supporting the Executive Functioning skills that are at the heart of 21st Century learning...flexibility, planning and organization.
So, you might be wondering what happened to our old Hangeroos....We are thrilled to share that they will have a new life this school year at a public elementary school in Passaic, New Jersey. It's nice to know that children who might not otherwise receive these classroom tools can now reap the benefits, too! How lucky we are at CRS, thanks to the continued generosity and support of our members and community!
